Dr Angie Cucchi
Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
I hold a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, a post graduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology, a MSc in Mental Health and a BSc degree in Psychology and Criminology.
I have over 16 years' experience in the NHS where I carry out psychological assessments, therapy and consultancy both in person and remotely. In the NHS I work with individuals with a primary diagnosis of Personality Disorder and a variety of co-existing difficulties. Some of these difficulties might have originated from trauma and abuse, but also from other life difficulties and an invalidating environment. I have also been running my own private practice for 9 years now and I routinely work with eating disorders, anxiety, phobias, depression, PTSD, sexual and physical issues. Some people come to therapy with a specific issue or goal in mind; others come to therapy for broader relationship difficulties and/or self-growth.
Whatever difficulties people come with, I take a compassionate and person-centred approach, always putting the person and the therapeutic relationship first. We are all different and unique, so I tailor my way of working to suit your needs. I am well-conversed in a variety of models, amongst which Mentalization based Therapy, Schema Therapy, Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, applied Mindfulness and Psychodynamic Approaches. My own background and interest in Systemic approaches and cross-cultural issues adds a more holistic perspective to what I do.
As well as being an experienced practicing Psychologist, I am an experienced lecturer and trainer in the field both nationally and internationally, I am a seasoned international speaker, and an active researcher both in the UK and internationally. In Iraq, I work in collaboration with the Iraqi Psychiatry Association to deliver CBT training to mental health professionals. In Oman I work in collaboration with Sultan Al Qaboos University Hospital and the Omani Medical Specialty Board to deliver training and supervision.
